This collection consists of one letter written by Felix G. Buchanan to Colonel C. A. M. Daniel on August 23, 1893. It is written on the letterhead of the Tennessee State Prison. In the upper left corner we find the names of Felix G. Buchanan, Warden and C. H. Smith, Deputy Warden. The letter is dated Nashville, Tennessee, August 23, 1893 and discusses the sale of farm land to a Mr. Derrick.

Abstract

This collection contains one letter written in 1893 by the Tennessee State Prison Warden Felix G. Buchanan to Colonel C. A. M. Daniel concerning the sale of farm land to a Mr. Derrick. Mr. Buchanan informs Col. Daniel of his upcoming trip to the branch prisons in East Tennessee, which leaves him unable to attend to this business right away.

Biographical/Historical Note

Felix Grundy Buchanan served in the Civil War in the First Confederate Infantry (also called the First Tennessee Volunteer Infantry). This regiment was organized at Winchester, Tennessee on April 29, 1861 and mustered into Confederate service at Lynchburg, Virginia on May 8, 1861. It surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse April 9, 1865. Felix G. Buchanan served as a Captain for Company G, called the Fayetteville Guards. He also commanded the regiment during the Mine Run Campaign and the Battle of Bristoe Station. He held this position until Lee's surrender in 1865.
