Abstract

This collection consists of letters from Hugh Lawson McClung to his children and wife spanning from 1840-1858.

Biographical/Historical Note

Hugh Lawson McClung was born May 26, 1810 to Charles and Margaret White McClung. He was first married to Rachel Morgan (1810-1842). He was later married to Annie Gillespie (1825-1875). He died April 11, 1891, and is buried in Old Gray Cemetery in Knoxville. His grandfather James White was the founder of Knoxville.
