Biographical/Historical Note

The American Ex-Prisoners of War is a "not-for-profit, Congressionally-chartered veterans’ service organization advocating for former prisoners of war and their families." It was established as the Batton Relief Organization (BRO) on April 14th, 1942 by two mothers from New Mexico. The name was changed to the American Ex-Prisoners of War at its second national convention in 1949. It continues to publish the Ex-POW Bulletin, which connects ex-prisoners of war across the country.
