Abstract

In it, Shore discusses his service with the Marine Corps in Vietnam as well as his impoverished childhood in eastern Tennessee and his experiences as a student at the University of Tennessee.
Biographical/Historical Note
Ed Shore was born in western Virginia and moved to Maryville, Tennessee with his family in 1949. He graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1966 and went on to join the Marine Corps. He completed OCS at Quantico, Virginia and served with the 1st Battalion of the 5th Marine Regiment and with the 1st Battalion of the 27th Marine Regiment in Vietnam. After being wounded on June 15, 1968, Shore worked as an agricultural advisor until he returned home in March of 1969. After leaving the Marines in 1970, he worked as a sales manager for the Upjohn Corporation before starting a construction company in Maryville, Tennessee in 1976.
