Tilghman Haws and his son Kenneth compiled this scrapbook of Knoxville newspaper articles, receipts, Confederate money, and a Civil War letter between 1861 and 1920.
Biographical/Historical Note
Tilghman Francis Haws was born to German immigrants Edward and Sarah (Sherer) Haws on May 7, 1834 in Northampton, Pennsylvania. He married Amelia Smith on June 17, 1873, and the couple had at least four children: Alice Rebecca (Haws) Miller (1875-1925), Christina Grenville (Haws) Roney (1878-), Bertha Louise (1882-), and Kenneth (1884-1949). The couple moved to Knoxville before 1880, where Haws established himself as a printer. Tilghman Haws died on July 4, 1916 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Kenneth Haws married Josephine Reddish (1887-1962) on September 8, 1926 and spent most of his career in the furniture business in Knoxville, Tennessee. He died in Knoxville on October 14, 1949 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery.

Josephine (Reddish) Haws donated this scrapbook to Special Collections in August of 1953.
