Abstract
This collection houses records produced by the University of Tennessee's Energy, Environment, and Resource Center in the 1970s.
Biographical/Historical Note
The Energy, Environment, and Resource Center is a multidisciplinary program formed in 1973 to study environmental issues. It initially focused on the Southeast but has expanded to include issues of regional, national, and global import. The Center has collaborated with such organizations as the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Tennessee Valley Authority, and the U. S. Department of Energy. It also played a key role in establishing the Waste Management Research and Education Institute (WMREI), which studies the issues surrounding solid, hazardous, and nuclear wastes. In the early 21st century, the Center began studying the problem of sustainable development and was incorporated into the Institute for a Secure and Sustainable Environment (ISSE).
