Abstract
This collection houses records documenting nursing students, the professional nurse trainee program, and other aspects of the University of Tennessee's College of Nursing.
Biographical/Historical Note
Planning for a nursing education program in Knoxville began in 1969 after a Tennessee Higher Education Commission study recommended creating such a program offering bachelors, masters, and doctoral degrees. The University of Tennessee's College of Nursing opened in 1972 and graduated its first class in 1974. The masters program was established in 1978 and the doctoral course was added in 1989. The program continues to thrive today.
