The W. Stuart Evans Collection consists of one box of subject files and correspondence. The bulk of these materials are composed of correspondence between Evans and such prominent University of Tennessee personalities as Presidents Edward J. Boling and Andy Holt. Also of interest are the items documenting air transportation in Knoxville and UT's aerospace program. Researchers interested in Evans's career after his time at UT should consult MS.2062, which deals with his involvement with the Knoxville International Energy Exposition (better known as the 1982 World's Fair).

Abstract

The W. Stuart Evans Collection consists of one box of subject files and correspondence. The bulk of the materials include correspondence between Evans and such prominent University of Tennessee personalities as Edward J. Boling and Andy Holt.

Biographical/Historical Note

William Stuart Pug Evans was born to William E. and Helen S. Evans on May 27, 1913 in Illinois. The family moved to Knoxville when Evans was a small child. Evans attended the University of Tennessee intermittently from 1930 to 1940 and his degree, a BS in Business Administration, was finally conferred on June 8, 1953. He also served in the Air Force and rose to the rank of Colonel before retiring. He the returned to Knoxville, where he became a civic leader. He involved himself in such organizations and activities as the Downtown Knoxville Association (DKA), Town Hall EAST, the Knoxville Housing Authority, and the 1982 World's Fair. He also worked at the University of Tennessee from 1967 to 1979 in the Department of Public Relations. Evans died in Knoxville on February 5, 1999.

The collection was a gift of Evans' daughter, Debbie Evans Ragland.
