Biographical/Historical Note
The Howard H. Baker Jr. Center for Public Policy, designed to develop programs and promote research to further the public's knowledge of our system of governance, and also to highlight the critical importance of public service, began operating at the University of Tennessee in 2003. The Center focuses on three main topics: maintaining and promoting research in the papers of Howard H. Baker Jr. and other politicians, hosting programs on issues of local, regional, and national significance, and developing educational initiatives to teach primary school students about the American system of governance. Its current facility opened formally on October 31, 2008.
