Abstract
This collection houses negatives and photographs depicting the 63rd College Training Detachment of the Army Air Forces, which operated at the University of Tennessee between 1943 and 1944.
Biographical/Historical Note
The 63rd College Training Detachment operated at the University of Tennessee under the direction of Major John D. Hartigan from 1943 to 1944. Its goal was to prepare college students for their future duties as officers in the U.S. Army Air Forces. This unit was part of a larger cooperative effort between all branches of the U.S. military and hundreds of colleges and universities nationwide.
