Sam Anderson wrote the final letter to inform King's family of his death on board a ship bound for home. Also included are two newspaper clippings describing the letters and their contents.

Biographical/Historical Note

William King was born on December 10, 1815 in Sapling Grove (later Bristol), Virginia to Reverend James and Mourning Micajah (Walker) King. While serving in the Mexican-American War, King received a rosary from Santa Anna’s daughter that he brought home on one of his visits. He died, on the ship bound for home, on July 2, 1848.
