East Tennessee County Tax Lists
This collection consists of tax records and receipts from East Tennessee. The records date from 1803-1804, and list the "taxable and taxable property" i.e. names and number of acres owned by that individual. Also included is a receipt for paid taxes dated November 5, 1875 by William Hunt for three dollars and seventy five cents.

Biographical/Historical Note
The tax records typically list the names of taxable citizens, taxable property (land, buildings, livestock), the assessed value, and the amount of tax. These particular documents, however, only list taxable individuals and the property of which can be taxed including land, dwellings, slaves, and machinery specifically related to cotton.
