A. Church Letter to N.B. McMullen
This letter, dated January 2, 1856, is addressed from A. Church to N.B. McMullen of Knoxville, Tennessee. The correspondence concerns the recommendation of a “Mr. Gray.” The author, A. Church, argues Mr. Gray’s particular qualifications for a professorship position. He mentions that Mr. Gray was amongst the top of his class, having graduated in 1823 from “a very superior class.” Church describes Mr. Gray as a “Minister and a scholar,” and goes on to say that Gray would be successful and “distinguished,” in his pursuits no matter what department he might find himself in.
