Abstract

This collection contains the burial announcement for eleven-year-old Sophia Moody White's funeral, held on November 17, 1842.

Biographical/Historical Note

Sophia Moody White was born on October 26, 1831, to George McNutt White (1800-1884), the 19th mayor of Knoxville, and Sophia Moody Park White (1809-1894). Sophia died at the age of eleven on November 16, 1842. She was the great-granddaughter of Knoxville founder James White. Sophia and both of her parents are buried in the Old Gray Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.
