This collection consists of a single letter addressed to the County Court of Jefferson County, Tennessee, from William B. Carter.
Biographical/Historical Note
William B. Carter was born on October 22, 1792 in Elizabethton, Tennessee. He was an American politician and served as Colonel in the United States Army during the War of 1812. Carter served as a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives and the Tennessee Senate. He was a delegate to the State Constitutional Convention in 1834 and a presiding officer. Carter served as a U.S. Representative from March 4, 1835 to March 3, 1841. He died on April 17, 1848 in his hometown of Elizabethton, Tennessee.
