Abstract

This collection consists of one scrapbook from S.B. Newman which contains a collection of Spanish-American War envelopes. Each envelope in the scrapbook contains an identifiable logo concerning the war.

Biographical/Historical Note

On April 25, 1898 the United States declared war on Spain following the sinking of the USS Maine in Havana. The war ended with the signing of the Treaty of Paris on December 10, 1898. As a result Spain lost control over Cuba, Puerto Rico, the Philippine islands, and Guam, among other islands. Thousands of Tennesseans fought in the Spanish-American War.
