Biographical/Historical Note

James Knox Polk was the 11th president of the United States, serving 1845-1849. He also was the 9th Governor of Tennessee (1839-1841) and the 13th speaker of the United States House of Representatives (1835-1839). Polk was born November 2, 1795 in Pineville, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina and died June 15, 1849 in Nashville, Davidson County, Tennessee.
