This collection consists of several letters addressed to Charles N. Julian, dated between November 3, 1887 and April 22, 1888. The letters discuss his involvement in the Lambda Chapter of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity at the University of Tennessee, when Julian was trying in vain to have a house built for the fraternity on campus. Also included in the collection are a grade report for Julian dated March 24, 1888, a check from the Kappa Sigma Quarterly for six dollars dated March 28, 1888, and a letter from Duncan Martin addressed to J. L. Kirby, both members of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, in regards to several Kappa Sigma related matters and to Julian's involvement with the building of a Lambda Chapter house.

Abstract

Biographical/Historical Note

Charles N. Julian was born in 1867 and grew up in Lenoirs, Tennessee. He studied at the University of Tennessee sometime between 1885 and 1889 during President Charles Dabney's tenure and was active in the university's chapter of the Kappa Sigma fraternity. He was also editor-in-chief of the university's newspaper.
