Biographical/Historical Note

Dr. Nicholas Romayne was born in September 1756 in Hackensack, New Jersey to John Romeyn and Juliana McCarty. He studied at King's College in New York and later at Edinburgh where he earned his M.D. After traveling, he ultimately settled in New York City where he practiced medicine. He was the first president of the New York Medical Society and of the New York College of Physicians and Surgeons. He died July 21, 1817 in New York City.
