Abstract

This collection contains a five-page genealogy sketch of the John Campbell family of Washington County, TN, from the 1780s to the 1940s . It includes lists of family members and dates, as well as some background information and anecdotes.

Biographical / Historical

John Campbell was born in 1765 in Augusta County, Virginia. By 1796, he had married Sarah (Sally) Taylor, and they were residing in Washington County, TN. Campbell was supposedly part of a trio who founded Leesburg, TN, which is located about four miles away from historic Jonesboro, TN. Washington County was formed as part of North Carolina in 1777, until Tennessee became a state in 1796.
