This collection includes three documents that dictate the release and sale of Alexander Thompson's lands in part to Jacob Newman in Greene County, Tennessee.

The first document, signed by multiple witnesses, allows for the sale of the deceased Alexander Thompson's lands. The second document is a notice that those in the agreement, Alexander Thompson and Jacob Newman, appeared before the county clerk; George W. Foute, the clerk, signed the document. The third is a contract showing that Jacob Newman purchased tracts of land from the real estate of deceased Alexander Thompson.

Biographical/Historical Note

Alexander Thompson was born on January 25, 1782. He died on March 2, 1843.

Jacob Newman was born on March 9, 1803 in Shenandoah County, Virginia. He died on April 4, 1855, and is buried in Old Gray Cemetery in Knoxville, Tennessee.
