This collection contains one typescript copy of James Monroe Griffith's letters to his son, George. Griffith's biographical letters to his son contain his known information about his ancestry, a recounting of the significant events in his life, and his service during the Civil War including travels and fighting in East Tennessee.

Biographical/Historical Note

James Monroe Griffith was born October 8, 1840 to James and Nancey Griffith in Tippecanoe County, Indiana. He moved to Kansas in 1865. He enlisted in July 1862 with the Sixth Indiana Calvary. He married Margaret H. Alexander and they had four children. Griffith died May 20, 1912 and is buried in Jackson County, Missouri.
