Biographical/Historical Note
Oscar Benjamin Franklin was born in 1890 in Morristown, Tennessee to John F. and Laura O'Neil Franklin. He was a sergeant in Company D, Third Tennessee Infantry from 1916 to 1919. He enlisted on June 26, 1916, and in the latter half of 1916 his company was stationed in Texas for the Mexican Border Service. Franklin also served in France during 1918. He was honorably discharged on April 13, 1919 for reason of demobilization. He married Sophia Lowry Stewart (1889-1968). Franklin passed away in Greenwood, South Carolina in May 1963.
