Biographical/Historical Note

Alfred Buffat was born on December 8, 1840 in Aigle, Switzerland to Pierre Francois and Sylvie Louise Tauxe Buffat. In July of 1849, the family emigrated to Tennessee and settled on a three-hundred acre farm near Spring Place. Pierre Buffat founded Buffat's Mill on this farm in 1861 and Alfred joined him in the business in 1865. Alfred Buffat died on September 4, 1908 in Knoxville.
