Abstract
This collection consists of a ledger for an unidentified goods business operating in and around Nashville, Tennessee in 1820.
Biographical / Historical
There is no information on who created this ledger, whether a small individual shop, large business, or possibly a trader who obtained goods by steamboat. There were no railroads in Tennessee until at least the 1850s, but steamboats started to arrive in Nashville by 1820. Tennessee was behind other states in industrial development until after the Civil War in the 1860s, and most goods had to be imported and delivered overland.
Arrangement
This coolection consists of a single folder.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
Special Collections purchased this collection in 1987.
