Biographical/Historical Note

James K. Polk served at the 11th U.S. President from 1845 to 1849. He previously served in the Tennessee Legislature and U.S. Congress, and became governor of Tennessee in 1839. Shortly after leaving the presidency in 1849, Polk died at the age on 53.
