In this typescript document, William Rule remembers his friend, William Gannaway Brownlow, who had recently died.
Biographical/Historical Note
William Rule was born on May 10, 1839, to Frederick and Elizabeth (Breakbill) Rule. He married Lucy Maxey in October 1858, and they had six children, James, Clara, Cora, Stella, Lillian, and William Junior. Rule died on July 26, 1928 in Knoxville, Tennessee. Rule was the founder of the Knoxville Journal and he was also mayor of Knoxville twice, first in 1873 and again in 1898.
