Abstract
This collection consists of three military records of Gideon S. Sentelle from 1865. The records include a discharge paper from Knoxville, Tennessee and two muster-out rolls.
Biographical/Historical Note
Gideon S. Sentelle was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina on March 22, 1840. At the age of 16, Sentelle ran away from home to Tennessee. In July 1863, he enlisted into the Union Army in Greene County and was supposed to serve for 3 years. A few weeks after his enlistment, he mustered with the E Company of the 8th Tennessee Cavalry Regiment. On September 11, 1865, he was discharged from the Army due to his entire regiment being mustered out. He married Rachel Jones in November of the same year. They 10 children in total, but only 8 of the children survived. He died in 1936.
