This collection consists of an 84-page manuscript of information gathered by Roy W. Black from issues of the Jackson Gazette in 1824.
Biographical/Historical Note
Roy Watterson Black was born on March 3, 1896 to James Hardy Black and Sarah Frances Walton. Black graduated from Central High School at Bolivar, Tenn. He worked at Black Farm Equipment Company. Black served as county historian of Hardeman County, Tennessee and as mayor (1937-1945) of Bolivar, Tennessee. He married Katherine Eugenia Vincent (1827-1978). Black died on May 5, 1973 and is buried in Hardeman County.
