This collection contains a letter written from John Alexander Wilson to his brother regarding the death of their mother, as well as a typed version of the letter and a brief biographical note on Wilson.

Biographical/Historical Note

John Alexander "Alex" Wilson was born on April 20, 1828 to Andrew and Elizabeth (McQueen) Wilson in Mountain City, Tennessee. Wilson studied surveying and philosophy, and taught at several schools in Johnson County. He married Sarah Elizabeth Stout (1843-1919) on March 31, 1866. The couple had nine children: Edwin Clinton Wilson (1867-1941), Milton E. Wilson (1869-1943), Emma (Wilson) Robinson (1870-1961), Baxter Wilson (1874-1934), Roy David Wilson (1876-1966), Lola Wilson (1879, William Hamilton Wilson (1881-1885), Lula Wilson (1884-?) and Amanda (Wilson) Pierce (1888-1940). Wilson died on July 16, 1901.
