Abstract

This collection features a letter from William Burden in White County, Tennessee to his cousin Jacob Peck in Stanton, Virginia. The letter is dated July 16, 1808 and concerns the death of Burden's grandfather and the managing of his estate by both Burden and Peck via the power of attorney.

Biographical/Historical Note

Jacob Peck was born in Virginia in 1745 to Jacob Peck and Lydia Borden. Peck had three wives: Elizabeth Butt, with whom he had five children; Malinda Givens, with whom he had no children; and Mary Coursey, with whom he had five children. He passed away in Stanton, Virginia in 1827.

William Burden was born around 1765 in Bedford, Virginia. He married Eleanor (Nelly) Hudson on January 27, 1794, in Knoxville, Tennessee. They had six children together. Burden passed away in Calvin Ridge, Arkansas around 1841.
