Biographical/Historical Note
Amos Wilson Judd was born on February 27, 1845, in Connecticut to Burrett Judd and Corressia Hull. He enlisted in Captain Dyke's company of Florida Light Artillery on March 2, 1864, for the duration of the Civil War. Judd was among the soldiers surrendered to Brigadier General E. M. McCook by Major General Sam Jones at Tallahassee, Florida on May 10, 1865. He was paroled two days later after signing his loyalty oath and later settled in Tennessee. Judd worked as a photographer after the war and is known for taking portraits of Tennessee politicians like Senator William E. Brock. He was married twice, first to Carrie R. McPhail on January 26, 1876, and second to Ida Eakin (1863-1946) on April 26, 1894. He had six children with his two wives: Samuel McPhail (1878-1953), Searcy Wilson (1880-1960), Carrie (1887-1963), Amie Eakin (1895-1973), John Spenser (1897-), and Hugh Malcolm (1900-1967). A. W. Judd died in Chattanooga, Tennessee on April 27, 1929, at the age of 83.
