Biographical/Historical Note

Countess Frances Waldegrave (1821–1879) was born in London, and married John James Waldegrave of Navestock, Essex in 1839. After his death the same year, she married George Edward, seventh earl of Waldegrave in 1840. After his death in 1846, she became owner of the entire Waldegrave estate, including residences at Strawberry Hill in Twickenham, Chewton in Somerset, and Dudbrook in Essex. She married a third time to George Granville Harcourt in 1847, and a fourth time to Chichester Samuel Parkinson Fortescue in 1863.
