William Henry Bail Bond

This collection consists of a bail bond written by Henry Breazeale, set at $1,000 for a one William Henry of Knox County, dated July 25, 1794. The alleged crime is trespassing and damages that amount to $500 against James Stinson. The bond states that Henry must appear in court the first Monday of August next in order to void the bond. The bond and presence of Henry to appear at court is under the obligation of Sheriff Robert Houston of Knox county. On the reverse of the bond is a note by Robert Houston that verifies the court activity and suing by James Stinson, dated August 2, 1794.

Biographical/Historical Note

No biographical information found on William Henry or Henry Breazeale.

Robert Houston was born in South Carolina later moving to what would become Knox County in 1790. Commissioned as Sheriff of Knox county upon its formation in 1792, Robert Houston was sworn into office on June 25. Robert Houston is possibly an elder cousin of famed General Samuel Houston.
