Abstract
This collection houses operational survival plans for the state of Tennessee promulgated by the Civil Defense Administration.
Biographical/Historical Note
The United States established a national civil defense program in 1950 in response to the threat of international thermonuclear war. This new Civil Defense Administration was replaced by the Office of Civil Defense in 1961. This office was succeeded by the Defense Civil Preparedness Agency in 1964, and this agency was incorporated into the new Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in 1979.
