Biographical / Historical

The Tennessee Centennial Exposition was held in 1897 to celebrate the state's one hundred year anniversary. The event lasted from May to October and included hundreds of exhibits, some of which were international. The exposition saw the construction of over one hundred structures in what is still known as Centennial Park in Nashville. The most famous of these was a reconstruction of the Greek Parthenon, which helped Nashville earn the nickname "Athens of the South."
