Biographical / Historical
Earle Harrison was a well-known Knoxville photographer and illustrator. He took the first color photos of the Panama Canal and frequently traveled internationally representing the Press Illustrated Service. He died in Smyrna on June 13, 1920, at the age of 37. Louis Bailey Audigier was born on September 4, 1859, in Arkansas. Audigier and his wife, Eleanor Deane Swan (1864-1931), were travelers and art collectors. The couple gave the University of Tennessee their collection of art in 1934 and in honor, the Audigier Art Gallery opened in Hoskins Library on campus at the time; their collection was later moved to the McClung Museum. Audigier died in 1943.
