Abstract
This collection consists of six documents, all financial papers belonging to Marcus DeLafayette Bearden. These papers include receipts and letters relating to Reverend George Horne of Knoxville.
Biographical / Historical
Marcus DeLafayette Bearden was born on March 31, 1830 to Benjamin and Elizabeth Minor Bearden. Bearden was an officer in the Civil War, serving in the United States Army as a captain in Company D of the Tennessee 6th Infantry. After the war, Bearden served as sheriff and mayor of Knoxville. He married Dicy Kidd and had two children, Susan Bearden York and John Kidd Bearden. Bearden died on September 27, 1885. No biographical information is available for his financial partner, Reverend George Horne.
