Biographical/Historical Note
The sloop Charming Sally participated in the Battle of Delaware Bay in April of 1782, where she was run aground and captured.
Hardy Murfree was born in Hertford County, North Carolina on June 5, 1752 to William and Mary (Moore) Murfree. He was a colonel during the Revolutionary War. He married Sarah (Sally) Brickell on February 17, 1780, and moved to Williamson County, Tennessee in 1807, shortly after she died. He amassed many acres of land there before moving to Pennsylvania, where he died on July 6, 1809. The town of Murfreesboro, Tennessee is located on Murfree's land.
