History of Bledsoe County

 Collection
Identifier: MS-0535

  • Staff Only

This 24 page typed manuscript provides a summary of a more complete history of Bledsoe County first published in the Bledsonian Banner in 1957. It begins with a description of the land and formation of the county and features the names of many early settlers, including the Andersons, Griffiths, Standifers, and Wilsons. Much of the subsequent information consists of stories about individuals, but some information about politics, agriculture, and economics is also present. Of particular interest are several pages about the Civil War (beginning on page 12) followed by a long section about local education featuring an interview with Aunt Janie Swafford regarding her time at Sequatchie College.
