William Pugh and Elizabeth Denton Marriage Bond
This document, dated November 2, 1792 and issued in the Territory of the United States South of the River Ohio, binds George Nolin and Isaac Denton to William Blount (then governor) for the sum of 600 pounds, void on the condition that there be no lawful objection why William Pugh & Elizabeth Denton may not be joined together as man and wife, in the holy estate of matrimony. The bond is signed by Denton, Nolin, and John Sevier Jr.

Biographical/Historical Note
William Pugh was born to Jonathon and Susanna (Rogers) Pugh in Virginia in 1774. He was married twice: first to Elizabeth Denton and second to Lucretia Valentine Price. For most of his life, he and his family lived on Centenary Creek in Blount County, Tennessee. Pugh died on July 4, 1850.
