This collection houses general correspondence from the Tennessee Higher Education Commission to the University of Tennessee dating from 1976 to July of 1984.
Biographical/Historical Note
Created by the Tennessee General Assembly in 1976, the Tennessee Higher Education Commission (THEC) is responsible for achieving coordination and unity among Tennessee's postsecondary institutions. THEC develops a master plan to ensure continued quality in higher education and makes policy recommendations based on this plan to the Board of Regents, the University of Tennessee's Board of Trustees, the General Assembly, and the Governor concerning such matters as degree programs and the regulation of tuition and fees.
