Abstract

This collection houses materials that Luke Ebersole collected and created while working as the University of Tennessee's Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (1970-1972), Vice Chancellor for Planning and Administration (1972-1984), and Emeritus Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor (1984-).

Biographical/Historical Note

Luke Eugene Ebersole was born to Benjamin and Mary (Patrick) Ebersole on October 18, 1918 in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and his D.D. from Krosier Theological Seminary. During the 1950s and 1960s, Ebersole became an expert on the relationship between Church and State and published several works on the subject. He went on to work for the University of Tennessee as the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs (1970-1972), as Vice Chancellor for Planning and Administration (1972-1984), and Emeritus Vice Chancellor and Emeritus Professor (1984-2001). Ebersole died on December 26, 2001 in Palmyra, Pennsylvania. He was survived by his wife, Margaret (Curry) Ebersole (1918-2002), and two sons.
