In this notebook, with covers of inlaid wood, Eleanora Armistead recorded her lineage from over twenty ancestors in order to prove her qualifications to join various colonial societies. Each lineage begins with a brief description of the initial ancestor and ends with a list of the references she used. Several include additional information such as the family motto or a description of their coat of arms.

Family names include Rodes, Harris, Claiborne, Crawford, Holland, Kinchin, Gilbert, Smith, Robertson, Alston, Armistead, Temple, Warfield, Battle, Webb, Kearney, Rives, Lindsay, Dawson, Dywokes, Gower, Carter, and Skipwith. Under Magna Charta Barons she has listed de Mowbray, de Clare, d'Albini, Bigod, and de Roos. Societies she qualified to join include the Society of Colonial Wars, Colonial Dames, Daughters of the 17th Century, North Carolina Dames, and Daughters of the American Revolution.

Biographical/Historical Note

Eleanora Hennen Smith was born on August 26, 1879, at Huckatoo Plantation, Arkansas, to Felix and Cynthia (Rodes) Smith. She married William Martin Armistead on February 15, 1914. She died on September 27, 1957, in Wayne, Pennsylvania.
