This collection features a number of papers and photographs regarding French scientist Raymond Latarjet. The collection houses a few letters to and from Latarjet, including one to the University of Tennessee Provost, George W. Wheeler. The collection contains one undated photographic portrait of Latarjet. It also houses an address given by Latarjet entitled L'amarante et le vert as well as several programs and articles celebrating Latarjet after his death in 1998. Most of the programs, articles, and addresses are in French; the rest of the collection is in English.

It also houses an address given by Latarjet entitled L'amarante et le vert as well as several programs and articles celebrating Latarjet after his death in 1998. Most of the programs, articles, and addresses are in French; rest of the collection is in English.

Biographical/Historical Note

Raymond Latarjet was born on October 17, 1911, in Lyon, France. His father, André Latarjet, was a professor and surgeon in Lyon. Raymond Latarjet studied at the Lycée Ampère in Lyon, the city where he also performed his university work. He is known for his research regarding UV radiation, carcinogenesis, and photobiology. He performed his work beginning in 1941 at the Radium Institute in Paris, founded for the work for the Madame Curie. He was married to Jacqueline Latarjet, a concert pianist, and had three children with her. He died of abdominal cancer on June 3, 1998.
