This collection consist of an eight page letter, dated June 24, 1864, written by John S. R. Fellows at Camp Patrick, Tennessee, during the Civil War. In the letter, Fellows writes home to his brothers and sisters about the hanging of 500 Confederate soldiers in Nashville during the Civil War.

Abstract
This collection consist of an eight page letter, dated June 24, 1864, written by John S. R. Fellows at Camp Patrick, Tennessee, during the Civil War. In the letter, Fellows writes home to his brothers and sisters about the hanging of 500 Confederate soldiers in Nashville during the Civil War.
Biographical/Historical Note
John S. R. Fellows was born in Ohio. At the time of his enlistment (March 23, 1864 ), he resided in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. At 19 years old, Fellows enlisted as a private. The next month, Fellows was transferred into "L" Co. Iowa 5th Infantry.
In the letter, Fellows writes home to his brothers and sisters about the hanging of 500 Confederate soldiers in Nashville during the Civil War. He describes the events that occurred in great deal to his family. Fellows continued to serve in the Iowa 5th infantry until July 1865.
