Biographical/Historical Note
General Mason Brayman (1813-1895), was in command of the Illinois Volunteers. Brayman was an attorney, before his military service begun. He was also a military officer and the sixth Governor of the Idaho Territory.
The letter is dated April 16, 1863, and regards General Brayman's orders against spies and guerrillas in West Tennessee.
