Biographical/Historical Note

William Enyard Bryan was born in November 1815 in Sevier County, Tennessee. He was the son of Thomas C. Bryan (1790-1867) and Elizabeth Nancy Cate (1790-1843), early settlers on the French Broad River near Kodak in Sevier County. William appeared in the census in 1850 in Sevier County listed as a farmer with wife Amanda Keener Bryan (1819-1897), married on April 25, 1843. The couple had 8 children: Mary, Margaret, Sarah, Martha, Nancy M., Rufus A., Allan Thomas, and Anne Lidia. Bryan died in 1907 and is buried in Sevier County.
