John C. Messamore Papers
This collection consists of a service memory book presented to John C. Messamore by his mother. In addition to basic identification information - such as Messamore's service branch, home address, and religion - the book also contains a list of important dates to remember, mailing addresses for friends and family, as well as brief narrative "snapshots." Also included are two photographs of a young woman.

Biographical/Historical Note
John C. Messamore was born in 1918. From Fountain, TN, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of twenty-six on March 10, 1942. In the summer of 1945, he was stationed in the Pacific Theater. Messamore was on the island of Okinawa when he received news that the war was over. He married Lillie F. Miller Messamore on October 25, 1941. John C. Messamore passed away in 1995.
