Biographical/Historical Note
The Quiet One is a 1948 documentary film which chronicles the rehabilitation of a young, emotionally disturbed African-American boy growing up in 1940s Harlem. James Agree wrote the commentary and dialogue; Sidney Meyers directed the film; Helen Levitt was the screenwriter and cinematographer, and Gary Merrill narrated the film. The film gained Meyers an Academy Award for Best Screenplay.
